Over the past few years DC comics has announced a slew of films that they’re going to be producing and releasing in the coming years. One of the projects that has received a lot of hype is a Shazam movie this is mostly due to the fact that Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson began talks with DC over whether he wanted to play Shazam or his main antagonist Black Adam. When it was announced that The Rock would be starting as Black Adam, it was also announced that he would be getting his own film, following along with with the most recent interpretations of the character where he is more of an antihero then he is a flat out villain. Not much more development has been made or announced when to comes to the Shazam movie, until today.
THR is reporting that DC’s next film to be put into production will be the Shazam film, ledby director David F. Sandberg (Annabelle). There’s no word on if The Rock’s Black Adam will appear in this film at all, but the assumption is that the two characters would each get their own film, followed by a film that would see the two facing off against one another.
While DC has yet to officially confirm this announcement they do have a panel on Saturday where it is expected for them to announce multiple upcoming projects including a release date for Wonder Woman 2. Hopefully that panel will bring a confirmation that Shazam is the next DC film to be put into production and with any luck we’ll get some sort of casting announcement as well. There’s also hope that we’ll get some updates on the other upcoming DC films including Gotham City Sirens, Suicide Squad 2, The Flash and the upcoming Batman movie.
