The 2018 San Diego International Comic Con has begun, and we’re going to be covering the news breaking out from the SDCC all weekend!
The MCU proper may not be at this year’s SDCC, but the Netflix side of the Marvel Universe did appear briefly. Jeff Loeb, the head of Marvel’s TV division hosted a panel for the upcoming second season of Iron Fist. Stars Finn Jones, Jessica Henwick, Simone Missick, Alice Eve, showrunner Raven Metzner and Black Panther stunt coordinator Clayton Barbe were also on hand to discuss the series. A few clips were revealed as well as a teaser which you can watch below.
The most exciting news from the panel was that Simone Missick will be joining the cast, reprising her role as Misty Knight. The new season will expand upon the friendship between Colleen Wing (Henwick) and Misty, which has grown through Defenders and season 2 of Luke Cage. Sacha Dhawan will be returning to the series as Davos, and we will see him grow as the Silver Serpent. The new season will also feature scenes of Danny and Davos in K’un L’un. One clip revealed at the panel showed them in battle to become the Iron Fist, another showed Davos actually possessing the Iron Fist.
The other exciting addition this season is that of Alice Eve. Eve commented that she was interested in joining the series as her character has multiple personalities. It was then revealed that the actress will be portraying Mary Walker, aka Typhoid Mary. In the comics, Mary is a mutant with dissociative identity disorder which gives her three distinct personalities, Mary, Typhoid, and Bloody Mary. She is a master at martial arts, has telekinetic abilities, and pyrokinesis.
What may be most interesting however is that Mary is usually an antagonist to Daredevil. The new season will see Danny upholding his promise to Matt Murdock at the end of Defenders, to keep his city safe. So will that connection tie into Mary, and potentially, more Daredevil characters? There’s no word yet. But given that Daredevil’s 3rd season should follow Iron Fist’s 2nd, it wouldn’t be surprising.
Iron Fist returns to Netflix on September 7th. Keep following Poor Man’s Spoiler throughout the weekend for more updates on everything coming out of SDCC 2018!
