With less than 90 days to go until the Oscars, we finally have our host!
It’s official, actor and comedian Kevin Hart will be hosting the 91st annual Academy Awards on Sunday, February 24th. There were some slight rumors this week of him being the host, but both The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and Hart himself confirmed the news. Hart released a statement on Instagram that you can check out below.

For years I have been asked if I would ever Host the Oscars and my answer was always the same…I said that it would be the opportunity of a lifetime for me as a comedian and that it will happen when it’s suppose to. I am so happy to say that the day has finally come for me to host the Oscars. I am blown away simply because this has been a goal on my list for a long time….To be able to join the legendary list of host that have graced that stage is unbelievable. I know my mom is smiling from ear to ear right now. I want to thank my family/friends/fans for supporting me & riding with me all this time….I will be sure to make this years Oscars a special one. I appreciate the @TheAcademy for the opportunity ….now it’s time to rise to the occasion #Oscars
Hart is a great choice for the gig, as he’s somebody’s who is funny, loved by most audiences, knows how to work a crowd, and is willing to roast people or be the butt of a joke. All in all he brings a lot to the table. It’s also good to see someone who is doing the job because they want to. He’s been asked in the past about hosting and has always said he would want to. Whereas half the time most hosts are pushed into. It’s sure to be an interesting show, and hopefully there can be some fun banter between him and some of his recent co-stars (re: Tiffany Haddish, The Rock).
We’ll see how it all turns out when Kevin Hart hosts the 91st Oscars on Sunday February 24th on ABC. And keep following Poor Man’s Spoiler for all of our Awards news leading up to the Oscar ceremony.
