91st Academy Award Winners: Green Book, Spike Lee and More

Check out the full list of Oscar winners here!

This year’s 91st annual Academy Awards were a bit surprising, but overall followed the Academy’s usual status quo. Green Book took home the top prize of the night, with Best Picture, and also landed a Best Supporting Actor Oscar for Mahershala Ali, as well as Best Original Screenplay. Bohemian Rhapsody took away 4 Oscars with Best Actor for Rami Malek, Film Editing, Sound Mixing and Sound Editing. Malek’s win was practically a guarantee. Editing isn’t actually surprising given that the film’s editor John Ottman, would have been dealing with balancing the work of two directors after the firing of Bryan Singer. The same could be said for the film’s win in the two Sound Categories.

Many figured that Avengers: Infinity War or Ready Player One would take away Best Visual effects, but that award went to First Man. This actually shouldn’t be too surprising in the end, as the academy isn’t usually fond of motion capture, and all four of the other nominated films used motion capture techniques in their visual effects. Black Panther was able to take home three Academy Awards for Best Score, Costume Design, and Production Design. Spike Lee also became a first time Oscar winner for his screenplay for BlacKkKlansman, a much deserved, and long overdue win.

Check out the full list of winners below, and be sure to keep following Poor Man’s Spoiler for all of our coverage of all things film.
