92 Academy Awards Winners: Parasite Wins Big!

Parasite and director Bong Joon Ho broke some major records at last night’s Oscars. Check out our thoughts and the full list of winners here.

Last night the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences awarded the 92nd Annual Academy Awards. Parasite took home the major prize of the night, making it the first international film to take home Best Picture. The film took home 3 additional Oscars including Original Screenplay, International Film, and Directing. The wins for Parasite are incredibly well deserved, as it’s undoubtedly the best film of the past year. There were some other highlights among the winner including Taika Waititi winning for best Adapted Screenplay for Jojo Rabbit. His win makes him the first indigenous person to win an Oscar in the history of the Awards.

Yesterday we talked about our frustration with the Academy, and our hope that they begin to recognize the works of all people and not just straight white men. While the Acting categories were all awarded to white actors and actresses, there was much more diversity throughout the other categories. From Waititi’s win to Hildur Guðnadóttir’s win for Best Score for Joker, the ceremony felt much more diverse than normal. The ceremony itself focused much more on diversity, including performances from Janelle Monáe and Utkarsh Ambudkar.

The Academy still has a long way to go, but hopefully last night was a sign that maybe things will begin to head in the right direction. We’ll keep our fingers crossed for now. Check out the full list of winners below and keep following Poor Man’s Spoiler for everything film and TV related.
