13 Reasons Why Season 2: Our Thoughts on the Difficult Show and Netflix’s Actions (Spoiler Free)

Last week Netflix released the second season of the highly controversial show 13 Reasons Why. The first season of the High School Drama faced some severe backlash for it’s brutally realistic portrayal of rape and suicide. Many viewed that a second season would potentially be in bad taste, but the streaming giant advised that they were going to continue on with the show. A warning video featuring the cast of the show is displayed at the start of the first episode of season 2. Multiple episodes begin with a warning card about the subject matter of the following episode. And at the end of each episode, there is information about a site created by Netflix for resources for those facing crisis’ brought up in the show.

Punisher: Marvel and Netflix Create a Slow Burning Character Piece

Netflix and Marvel have had a great track record in recent years with the TV shows based on Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist. As well as the Team-Up series, The Defenders. For the most part these shows have received praise from fans and critics alike for not only being solid material but truly realizing each of the titular characters. After the introduction of The Punisher in season 2 of Daredevil and the praise for Jon Berenthal’s performance as the gun toting vigilante, a TV series based on the character was greenlit. That show was released last weekend and may in fact be Marvel and Netflix’s best venture yet.

SDCC: Netflix’s Defenders Panel and Trailer (with a Taste of Punisher)

In the fall of 2013 it was announced that Marvel was working on creating TV series for Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Iron Fist and Luke Cage. The plan being for them to all then group together in a separate team up series The Defenders. Netflix picked up the project, starting with Season 1 of Daredevil. Since then the properties have become huge Hits for Netflix and Marvel and have led to a second season for Daredevil, with a third on the way, second seasons of Jessica Jones and Luke Cage currently in production, a Punisher spinoff coming late this year and the group series Defenders hitting Netflix this August.
