Before the show starts here’s our final thoughts and predictions on the Oscar race!
Tonight is the 91st Annual Academy Awards! And all day today we’ll be bringing you a rundown of each category as well as reviews of the nominated films. Next up, we’re looking at the Best Original Song category. We’ll explain what the category means and who the frontrunner is as of now.
Best Original Song
This award goes to a song that was written specifically for a film. None of Queen’s songs could be nominated for Bohemian Rhapsody, as all of those are decades old. But every new song in A Star is Born or Mary Poppins Returns could be nominated. This year the nominees are, “All the Stars” from Black Panther, “I’ll Fight” from RBG, “The Place Where Lost Things Go” from Mary Poppins Returns, “Shallow” from A Star Is Born, “When a Cowboy Trades His Spurs for Wings” from The Ballad of Buster Scruggs.
“Shallow” is winning this award. Period. There’s no discussion here. Even if A Star is Born doesn’t take home a single other award Sunday, it’s taking home the Oscar for this song. It’s a good song. The song is the most pivotal, important, and honestly best part of the film. There’s nothing that compares to this song this year. Lady Gaga will be an Oscar winner on Sunday night. Sorry Kendrick.
So as of now here’s the final word:
Best Original Song: “Shallow” from A Star is Born, Music and Lyrics by Lady Gaga, Mark Ronson, Anthony Rossomando and Andrew Wyatt
